Dental bridges are an option to replace missing teeth for some patients. Bridges are generally at least three crowns bonded together to replace a missing tooth. The two teeth on either side of the missing one bridge the gap, which is why they're called bridges! Though bridges were once the standard of care to replace a missing tooth, they are rarely indicated over an implant supported crown. This is because a bridge requires preparing two otherwise healthy teeth for crowns and minimally helps preserve the bone that is present where the tooth is missing. Alternatively, an implant stimulates the bone where the tooth is missing and leaves the adjacent teeth undamaged. However, there are still reasons to choose an implant over bridge.
