Partial dentures are great option to replace multiple missing teeth in an arch while keeping the natural teeth. Partial dentures are removable, as opposed to fixed in place, meaning that patients remove these to sleep and clean. They are a valuable alternative choice to bridges and implants. We offer three different types of partial dentures at Sager Dental:
Cast Metal partial denture:
These partial dentures are made of metal and acrylic. The partial stays in by using small metal clasps to hold on to the natural teeth to allow patients to smile, talk, and eat with these in place. The benefit to this kind of partial is it's generally easier to adjust and can be modified later if teeth need to be added to it
Flexible partial denture
These partial dentures use no metal clasps and stay in place by engaging on the gingival contours of the patient. These partials are great for aesthetics, chewing, smiling, and talking. These partials generally require fewer appointments to fabricate and do not involve modifying the existing teeth. However, these type of partials are more difficult to adjust and teeth cannot be added to them later.
Interim Partial Denture (flipper)
These partial dentures are generally the least expensive and the easiest to adjust. They're great for replacing 1-2 teeth and are often used after an extraction of an anterior tooth so that the patient does not go home missing one of their front teeth. They function well for smiling and talking, but it is generally not indicated to eat with these in place
